Brune Park – An Investor in Careers Brune Park has been an Investor in Careers since achieving the award in late 2005. The award is given to institutions which hit recognised national standards for careers, advice and guidance and work-related learning. The college was successfully re-assessed during summer 2011. We are proud to be able to offer our students a wide range of opportunities to prepare them for the future.
We aim to prepare young people for the rest of their lives. Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) are built into the Personal Development Learning (PDL) programme provided for students from Year 7 to Year 11. Self-awareness, decision making, social skills and the development of an Individual Learning Plan are vital parts of the programme.
In Years 8 and 9, students have the chance to meet a careers guidance professional, attend the careers fair and careers workshops and make an early visit to the careers library in relation to their option choices. The Options Evening is attended by many students and parents, keen to gather information about the pathways and courses open to them.
In Years 10 and 11, students are made aware of post-16 opportunities and given support to prepare for interviews, including drafting a Personal Statement and CV.
We have good links with local further education institutions and representatives visit to explain all the courses and combinations available at their establishments, including apprenticeships. Information and the opportunity to discuss their future are also available to students during the autumn Careers Fair and occasional careers workshops. From Year 10, students have individual careers' interviews with a guidance professional. It is expected that all students will have at least one such interview.
Careers information in a range of media is available from the Information Centre where students are able to browse during break times and before and after college.
During Year 10, students spend two weeks on work experience organised through the Education Business Partnership. We believe this to be a very valuable part of the college curriculum and in conjunction with the careers education offered from Years 7 to 11, provides an excellent preparation for life after Brune Park.
Holding Performing Arts specialist status, the college places increasing emphasis on the wide range of careers available in this field, and is building stronger links with local theatre and media companies.
