Modern Foreign Languages
Subject Leader: Miss Shorten
Students begin their study of Modern Foreign Languages by learning introductory greetings and how to communicate basic classroom phrases in their selected language (French or Spanish). The aim is that after the first few weeks students will use the foreign language rather than English as the normal means of communication in lessons. In the second half of the Autumn Term, they will learn to express and understand personal information such as name, age, birthday, details about family and pets, likes and dislikes and where they live.
In the Spring Term, students learn to describe the College, tell the time and also to give information about what they like to do in their leisure time. Finally, in the
Summer Term students finish their first year of foreign language study by learning to describe their home and local environment. They also learn to express their opinion on these topics and give reasons.
